Pittsburgh Top Tech Employers
Increasing Diversity in Tech
Carlow has a deep commitment to increasing representation of women and other minorities in tech-related majors and careers. Multiple studies show that women generally, and Black men and women specifically, are unrepresented in computer science and other tech programs. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, of all STEM graduates in 2016, 6.5% were Black.

Big Tech Lagging
The number of Black employees holding leadership or highly compensated technical roles at America’s largest tech firms remains low. At Google, only 2.6% of leadership and 2.4% of technical workers are Black. At Facebook, Black people make up only 3.1% of those in leadership roles and 1.5% of those in technical roles.

Diversity in Computer Science
Federal data shows that from 2017 to 2019, only 8.6% of computer science graduates were Black. Computer science also has one of the lowest percentages of female degree recipients. In fact, only 19.9% of computer science undergraduate degrees were awarded to women in 2018, despite 50.8% of the population being women.
